👋 Hi there! I’m Jess.

📑 I am a lead technical editor and writer at Leidos, where I support documentation for the Office of Child Support Services and manage automation and efficiency projects. I have also run my freelance business, Just Ask Jess, since 2010.

🖊 I specialize in nonfiction, with a focus on technical and academic documentation. A firm believer that writing may be hard—but editing doesn’t have to be—I work to streamline the editing process for myself and clients.

👥 Outside of work, I mentor emerging editors and volunteer with professional editing organizations, including the Editors Tea Club, ACES, and Professional Editors Network.

👩‍🏫 I graduated with a degree in Communications and a minor in Creative Writing from the University of Wyoming. I’m currently enrolled in the University of Chicago’s professional development certificate in Editing program.

🗺 I grew up in southern Louisiana, went to college in Wyoming, married a guy from South Dakota, lived in Michigan for a decade, and now call Colorado my home.

📖 I’m a voracious reader of fiction, especially historical romance, fantasy, urban fantasy, and young adult fantasy.
